Demolition work on our former sheltered scheme of 39 one-bedroom flats has now begun and the site will be cleared before the end of 2017. Construction of our fantastic new development of 71 two-bedroom homes will start in early 2018 and is expected to complete in early 2019.
Howard Cottage Chairman Gary Grindal said: “I’m delighted that things are progressing so well. The Howard Cottage Board has supported the proposal for this scheme from the very start and it’s great to see it coming to fruition.
“We decided to name the building John Coxall Court in memory of our long-serving former Chairman, who sadly passed away in 2016. John was a true gentleman with a passion for Howard Cottage and the provision of good quality homes for our residents. It’s a great honour for us to be able to recognise his hard work and commitment in this way.”
Howard Cottage Chief Executive John Welch said: “This is a really exciting time for Howard Cottage. John Coxall Court will be our largest single development for more than 40 years. It comes at a time when the provision of high-quality homes for the over-55s group has never been in greater demand.
“To be able to pioneer a scheme like this reflects the ethos and heritage that Howard Cottage has been bringing to Letchworth Garden City for more than 100 years. People’s expectations of their housing in later life are rightly demanding and John Coxall Court will offer them fantastic new home and lifestyle opportunities in a newly created community. We’re confident that this will be an attractive proposition to the former residents of Hamonte and to new residents.”
