For he’s a jolly good fellow!

David Gurd Good Neighbour 2018

When Chief Executive John Welch presented David Gurd with this year’s Neighbour of the Year
Award, Macfadyen Webb House gave him a round of applause, followed by a rousing rendition of
For he’s a jolly good fellow.

“I nominated David because he’s always doing things for us,” said resident Mary Murphy. “He drives
us in to town every Tuesday. Then we ring him and he comes to pick us up again. If I ever need to go
to the doctor’s at Sollershott, he always takes me and brings me back. He really is kind.”

The award came as a complete surprise to David. “I didn’t expect to be recognised like this,” he said.
“It’s nice to be able to help people, and if I didn’t do half the things I do for the other residents, I’d
be in my flat all day. I enjoy getting involved with everything I can, here at Macfadyen Webb House –
I did the same at Hamonte when I lived there.”

Congratulating David, Chief Executive John Welch: “Today is not just about what you do for your
fellow residents at Macfadyen Webb House. It’s recognition of your contribution to the local
community over many, many years. Thank you on behalf of your friends, your neighbours and
Howard Cottage for everything that you’ve done – and continue to do.”

David really is a jolly good fellow… and so say all of us!

What makes a good neighbour?

If Neighbours all look out for each other, you end up with a friendlier community, a safer neighbourhood and a much nicer place to live.

At Howard Cottage, we like to recognise residents who have gone that extra mile to improve the lives of their neighbours.  Our Good Neighbour of the Year Awards are a welcome opportunity for us to mark the important contribution residents make to our communities.
